How to migrate a VirtualPC disk to a VMware Fusion disk

I know, I said this more then one year ago, but now I'm really doing it: I decided to stop using my PC laptop, and I decided to finally everything to my Mac. There was one trigger, actually two, that made me take the final decision: the first one was that now I need to develop for the iPhone for work and I didn't want to go to my office with both the Mac (for the iPhone development) and the Dell (for Outlook, OCS, Office, time reporting software, and other internal applications), and then that for the writing my book...

VMware Fusion 2.0 beta 2

A few months ago VMware released the first beta of Fusion 2, the first version of Fusion to add multiple display support. Today they released the beta 2: Safer, Stronger, and More Seamless: VMware Fusion 2 Beta 2 Now Available. I’m using Fusion2 beta 1 since a month or so, and I’m really enjoying using VS on my Cinema Display. The only problem I found is that the shared folder shows up as network folder, not as native disk inside Fusion, so I cannot run ASP.NET apps from it due to security reasons. In XP it was just a matter of increasing the...

VMware Fusion 2.0: now with multiple displays

Since I installed Win2008 on my Mac I never really used it: turning on my company's laptop was less painful than the usability problems that both VMware and Parallels have. VMware was not working very well with more than one display: if you open an application in Unity mode it will be stuck in the display the main Fusion application is running, and in fullscreen mode it is not possible to have more then one display. Parallels works fine with multiple displays, but I don't like the way the mouse pointer is handled in Coherence mode: there are...

Win on Mac

It's already almost 2 months since I got my Mac and, while all other switcher installed a virtualization software as first thing, I'm still running on Leopard only. Probably because I still have 2 other laptop running on Windows at home (my old one and my work one). But sooner or later I've to do it: but I've not decided yet what to install. I'm leaning a bit toward Fusion. I found a very complete benchmarking that says Parallels is better than Fusion (even though Fusion is faster hosting Vista), but it compared Parallels 3.0 with Fusion 1.0...
