Not a real censorship, like the Chinese one, but the Italian government is about to issue a new law to "organize" anything that can inform people: newspaper, magazines, public website but also private ones and blogs.

In order to have a blog, if this law is really issued, its owner must be registered to the ROC (Registro degli Operatori di Comunicazione), and must have a registered journalist as "Chief Editor".

I know this sounds like a joke, but it's not. Not a real law for the moment, but has been proposed in August and seems like it has been approved by one of the government commissions.

After this news I might have to rethink about my decision to find a job in Italy and not come back to New Zealand. smile_regular

Nice is the image related to the news on Punto Informatico:

Emigrare means to migrate in Italian.

# Suggestion: come back to New Zealand

Left by Massimo at 10/19/2007 5:48 PM

Hi,

I'm italian .. just a suggestion, come back to New Zealand not to Italy.
Young people in Italy do not have a future. Our politicians are making Italy like Iran...we're on that way.
We are in the hands of banks, corrupted politicians, mafia and economic managers without qualms.
They're trying to close our mouth with this illiberal law.
it's better to keep out of italy.

Please, let know this situation to many people as possible.

Thank you

# Italian Experiment

Left by Jean Claude at 10/19/2007 6:27 PM

Hi, i'm an italian man living in Brasil.

Italy is a nice experiment about "country ownership". In the comunist model, the Communist Party has the power and the property, so if you own the Party, you own the country (see: Castro, Chavez, Mao, actual China Comunist Party, Stalin, Putin, ..).

In the West, the use\abuse of violence is not easy at the moment, so it's impossible for a single man to own directly all the power.

Without violence, an incredible network of political control has been created during the time in italy, so for every single thing a 'political' person is involved. People slowly loose their rights and they don't even realize that! An incredible quantity of small bricks (see the law proposal about blogs for instance) that together create a real dictature...

It's a nice experiment about how a democracy can slide into a dictature, even without a single owner.

Stay tuned. Peace.
